Let’s talk about your case
(01)(How it is calculated)© 2026

The maths, in plain sight

Value of a client = what they pay per job × your margin × jobs per client.

Value of each enquiry = value of a client × percentage of enquiries that hire you.

Clients needed to recover the investment = investment ÷ value of a client, rounded up.

Enquiries needed = clients needed ÷ percentage of enquiries that hire you, rounded up. Because we count whole clients, you may need a few more enquiries than if you divided the investment by the value of each enquiry.

It is a deliberate simplification. It does not take into account taxes, how long each client takes to come in or the value of the referrals they bring. It is for making decisions with numbers, not for doing the accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what people ask us before we start.

How is the value of a client calculated?

We multiply what they pay you per job by your margin and by the number of jobs they give you on average while they are a client. It is a simple version of customer lifetime value, designed for quick decisions.

What should I do if I do not know my close rate?

Make an honest estimate from the last 10 or 20 enquiries you received: how many ended up hiring you. If you do not track it yet, it is the first thing to start recording, and our guide to measuring your website’s enquiries explains how.

Do you store the figures I enter?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. If you accept analytics, we only record that you used it, never your figures.

What is this number for?

To decide sensibly how much you can invest in winning clients. If a new client earns you €1,620, paying €300 to win them is good business. Without this number, any budget looks expensive or cheap for no reason.

Shall we run the numbers for your case?

With these numbers and the searches in your area, we will tell you what you can expect from a website or a plan and whether it pays off.
